'MEET ME THERE IN 2220'  VR-installation
PROJIO - Media and Light Art Festival
15th - 20th October / Finlayson

Projio was a summit of the Finlayson Art Area in the autumn of 2020. The festival took place at the venue for the first time and will continue in the future. Event is focused on audiovisual / lighting design and digital art.

My piece at the festival was a post apocalyptic VR scene of my hometown Tampere. Originally the work was meant to be a free-viewing VR experience, but due to the lack of time it was published as a VR scene presented in a form of animation. The work will continue to evolve and in the future it will become a customizable VR environment and a game.

The work is made entirely with Unreal Engine 4 and I used Google maps with Render Doc to convert 3D models of the city of Tampere. I also used smaller, detailed models of the city, that I scanned with iPhone X. In addition, I made music for the piece with Ableton Live 10 and Arturia Midi Keyboard with Arturia Analog Lab. The music will be published as an EP later this year.

In the final piece, there was 3 different scenes with different landmarks of Tampere: the Antarctic Kaleva Church -scene, the Mars-like red rock -scene with Ratina bridge and the misty coast of Särkänniemi and Näsineula. In the future, the scenes will contain tasks that are related to making research of these environments, investigating what happened over 200 years.
