Bio
I am a phygital fashion designer and audiovisual artist called Kalista. With expertise as a professional designer and technician, I move effortlessly between the realms of the physical and digital, utterly fascinated by exploring the interfaces between them. My brand is focused on digital design, AR clothing and 3D printed accessories, currently researching and developing the usability of 3D printed fabrics, particularly those derived from recycled or biodegradable materials. As a designer, I produce a range of 3D and XR design services, specializing in digital garment and character design, generative simulation and live visualization. Additionally, I design and create content for gaming environments. My area of expertise and interests include a wide range of design, technology, music and dance, which gives me the ability to combine different concepts and techniques, from organic to digital. In live visualization, my interest is particularly focused on motion capture techniques, 3D projection mapping and XR solutions, especially the use of AR wear in different solutions. As a performance artist, I practice fencing techniques, which I combine with media art and dance. Musically, I am oriented towards electronic music production, but I also have a background in classical instruments.
background
Growing up in Rauma and having spent most of my childhood in the Finnish archipelago, I took root in Tampere 10 years ago and have called it home ever since. The aesthetics of sea/lake sites and the coastal lifestyle have strong influence in my work.
Essentially, my work is driven by a deep interest in the ideas offered by post- and transhumanism, especially those that explore possibilities for overcoming the limitations of the human body through technology. The inevitable convergence of the singularity of artificial intelligence, as well as the question of the necessity of the biological state for the future of human evolution, are topics I process in my art. One of the goals of my future work is to examine the relevance of external multisensory connection to bodily presence, as well as the effect of surface illusion in self identification and experience of physical ownership.
I research and visualize themes of space, astronomy, artificial intelligence and science fiction. These elements are represented in my work with values such as equality, humanity, anti-racism, cherishing diversity and future of humankind and the respect of environment. I also support LGBTQ culture in my work. By making digital art, I want to draw attention to the possibilities of humanity in the future and create utopian worlds for the purpose of which is to deal with the prospects, that we would be able to achieve if we were more united. For example habitating space and other planets, having more time to explore the universe.
