On July 2020, I participated in the TWENTYTWENTY's and IVY Lab's global broadcast, where I made visuals for Havelock's mix. The project has been one of the most extensive international virtual concepts, bringing together musicians and visualizers from around the globe. My work for the broadcast is based on my research of photogrammetry and other 3D scanning techniques. Thereby I spend lots of time in my hometown's lake sites and ridges, scanning rocks, stumps, trees, grounds, anything interesting in the forest and testing out different methods to accomplish the best result. I wanted to achieve organic photorealism for the scanned models and then combine them in something artificial and digital, like liquid chrome. I find it very fascinating to explore the boundaries of the organic and digital, world and the state, where those two no loger differ.
For the project I used ZBrush for modeling and Blender for the animation and rendering. I studied many different 3D scanning softwares, like 3DF Zephyr, Reality Capture, Agisoft and Meshroom and ended up getting best result with Meshroom. I also considered Meshroom being one of the easiest photogrammetry softwares. In addition I made tests with Display Land -application, which lets you use video for the scanning process.
